A cod icefish of the southern hemisphere, rather than the Atlantic variety usually associated with Boston, and whose pursuit is said to have played a role in the discovery of the Outer Banks fishery before Columbus’ fateful voyages. It is an inhabitant of icy waters, and like other fish native to polar seas it contains a natural ‘antifreeze’ which some believe may have health benefits. Prepare as you would Atlantic cod. It has the cod quality of being just a little oily yet deliciously sweet. Put a Sam Adams next to it, and you won’t know the difference.
